5 Birthmarks of the Born Again Christian

What is a Built-in Again Christian?

While the entire Bible stresses certainty and assurance for Christians who are born-again, there's one section of Scripture that stakes out this theme as its key focus—the letter of one John.

As nosotros carefully read through 1 John, we notice a five-fold argument for the assurance of salvation—v of the birthmarks of the Christian. These are characteristics and traits of someone who is born again through faith in Jesus Christ.

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we take seen with our eyes, which nosotros accept looked at and our hands have touched—this nosotros proclaim concerning the Give-and-take of life. The life appeared; we have seen information technology and evidence to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. Nosotros proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete." 1 John i:i-4

Let'south take a look at the 5 signs of those who are born again Christians

  • 1. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Confession

one. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Confession

The first is the birthmark of confession, described in 1 John 5:1: "Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God." Before you tin have assurance of conservancy, you take to believe and be saved. You have to confess Jesus Christ as Lord. Some people assume they are saved because they grew upwardly in a Christian culture, or they have gone to church building all their lives, or they accept been baptized, or they accept tried to alive a good life. All the same they've never distinctly and personally confessed Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

The Bible teaches that we are sinners, separated from God by a sinful nature. We can never earn, buy, or climb our way into sky. Past our own efforts or goodness, we can never be saved. That's why God became a man who lived a wholly righteous life, died on the cross, shed His claret for us, and rose from the dead. He paid our penalty, took our judgment upon Himself, and He offers us the opportunity to be born again.

  • 2. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Change

    2. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Change

If the first birthmark is our confession of Christ as our Savior and Lord, the second is a inverse life, every bit we see in one John two:29: "Everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him." When Jesus truly saves united states, it makes a deviation in how we think, act, speak, and deport ourselves. The Bible says, "If anyoneisin Christ,he isa new cosmos; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (two Corinthians 5:17).

As we begin learning to practise righteousness, our habits alter. We volition not exist sinlessly perfect while we're on this planet; merely if we're Christians, we demand to behave like Christians. If nosotros say we're saved but null has changed near u.s., something is incorrect. We are not savedbyadept works, but we are savedforadept works, and the Gospel is a transforming agent in our lives.

  • 3. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Compassion

    3. Born Over again Christian: The Birthmark of Pity

Those who are truly saved also bear the birthmark of compassion. How tin you know that you are a Christian? By what you believe, by how you live, and by whom you love. Honey is a recurring theme in i John, and the apostle leaves no dubiousness nigh how it permeates the lives of true Christians. "Beloved," he wrote, "let us love one some other, for dearest is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. . . . We know that we take passed from expiry to life, considering nosotros love the brethren" (1 John 4:seven; iii:14).

Practise y'all love your brothers and sisters in the family of God? Those who are truly saved are those who enjoy and bless the household of faith, the family of God.

  • 4. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Conflict

    4. Built-in Once again Christian: The Birthmark of Disharmonize

A fourth sign of being truly saved is disharmonize. According to 1 John five:four, "Whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our religion." The wordovercomeimplies a struggle. We're faced with an adversary whom we must overcome. Our adversary is identified in i John 2:fourteen equally the wicked one: "I take written to you, young men, because y'all are strong, and the word of God abides in yous, and yous have overcome the wicked one." John went on in the next verses to say: "Do not honey the world or the things in the globe. . . . For all thatisin the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the optics, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the globe" (ane John 2:xv-17).

When you're genuinely born of God, you'll be growing to exist an overcomer equally you lot deal with the temptations effectually you—the world, the flesh, and the devil. You may not be victorious over every temptation every fourth dimension, but y'all'll make progress in gaining more victories and losing less battles every bit you grow stronger in Christ and in the power of the abiding Word of God.

  • 5. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Conduct

    5. Built-in Again Christian: The Birthmark of Comport

That leads to the final point I want to brand: Nosotros can meet bear witness for the validity of salvation in our desire to behave ourselves in a way that pleases God. According to 1 John iii:ix, "Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, considering he has been built-in of God."

If we're non conscientious, we might interpret this verse to teach that anyone who is built-in of God never sins. That would conflict with other passages in the Bible that describe us as fallible and often failing.

In one John 3:9, the word for sin is a present active infinitive and it describes a continuous activeness. John is not saying that whoever sins once is not born of God. That would disqualify all of us. It would certainly disqualify me. Only John is saying, in upshot, "Whoever keeps on willfully sinning, violating God's law with stubborn disregard and ongoing wickedness, cannot have assurance of conservancy."

If we are truly saved, nosotros will grieve over our sins, confess them, and seek God's grace to do better.

  • You can have assurance of salvation today.

You can take balls of salvation today.

His grace is inexhaustible and His salvation is irreversible. Make sure you accept confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and so trust Him with your eternal future. He will never leave you or forsake you. His Give-and-take was given that you might know Jesus Christ as your Savior and that yous might know that you have eternal life.
